What colour walls with grey carpet ?!

Have a decorator booked for early December to do our hallway, ceilings and woodwork. It's a 3 story hallway with a lot of wood so I'm looking forward to getting it freshened up (we've lived here 17 years and it was brand new when we moved in, magnolia and gloss). We are having white Matt on the wood and radiators. DH wants a grey carpet (helps with the dog), but what walls?

I don't know what to do that's not cold or just too similar to the magnolia? I'd like a white with a hint of a colour maybe but warm?

Now the decorator is booked it's feeling a bit more urgent to think more about it 😀

I'd do a grey wall with. A grey carpet (broken up with the white skirting, radiators and ceiling). If you've got lots of natural light I'd be tempted to do a contrasting grey (light grey carpet/dark grey wall or vice versa)

I have silvery grey in the hallway with a mid grey carpet, and navy in my bedroom with a lighter grey carpet.

Both work.

My niece has a dark grey carpet with a beige wallpaper feature wall with very subtle large flowers through it … it looks amazing. She’s gone some shade of “off white” on all of the walls. It looks lovely, because she’s got some dashes of colour in her decor and that’s enough. I’m sure you will love.

I've got grey carpet and went with Just Walnut from dulux on the main walls, so living rooms and hallways. It's a little greyish/purplish (subtle) but goes with the carpet well. We have white satin trim. I find it warms up the grey a bit.

A greige, carpet would be slightly warmer in colour and would match better with a warmer wall colour.
With grey carpet cooler colours work better but you could go for a cool pink or cool lilac?

Thought I'd update to say the painters finished this week, grey carpet (can't remember exact shade, maybe pale to medium?) comes next week. Am really pleased so far 👍😂 Same paint and white wood all the way up to top.

It is beautiful. What colour is on your walls?

MiniCooperLover · 10/12/2022 20:28

Thanks, it's F&B Card Room Green

A nice green, that one, it looks great, really classy-looking with that space. I had a similar green in my 'front room' in my last house- an old British Standard colour called Moorland back then, not on current charts but if you give them the BS number they can mix it.
In my current front room, I have to use breathable paint, so the choice is more limited, I found a slightly lighter but similar version in Earthborn called Sunday Stroll. Takes light very well, even in a room that faces North.

It can be annoying if a type of paint you have to have can't be mixed in all colours. I had a nightmare trying to find a clay based colour for my vestibule, in the end I mixed it myself from an earthborn colour plus some powder pigment. It's a great colour, but if I need some more I'll have to remix it very accurately (eek). So I'm doing as I used to do at work- keeping a little pot of the remains for retouching.

I think all grey looks too much.

I'd go for an off-white with maybe a hint of blue-grey- one of the F&B whites.

JinglingXmasbells · 10/12/2022 21:25

sorry I didn't see your update- thought that was the old colour. anyway it looks nice.

Farrow and Ball ammonite, with white skirtings and woodwork. X

MiniCooperLover · 16/12/2022 19:50

Thanks. Carpet went down today, it's a nice grey. I'm wishing I'd been brave enough to go off white instead of white white for all the paintwork, I thought it would all be too dark with the dark green walls ... it's a bit stark and 'very clean' looking rather than soft but hopefully it'll soften over time?

Looks lovely! It all looks good together and I’m really envious of your wood floor.

MattDamon · 16/12/2022 20:49

Looks so good! You definitely chose the right green.

TheRealKatnissEverdeen · 16/12/2022 20:55

Hallway and landing envy. Looks lovely. Ready for Christmas!

Greensky90 · 16/12/2022 21:08

Deluxe chic shadow or there's another lighter colour but I have forgotten the name by Dulux!

hollyjolls · 16/12/2022 22:34

Such a lovely green, it looks fabulous! I hate our living room which is mainly just grey and dull and have been wanting to add some green to bring a bit life into it, this one is just what I'm looking for so will keep it in mind.
