Wifi and tv not working after installation of a smart meter - any quick fixes?

I've looked it up on Google and the theme is that the elecrics aer not compatible usually so the internet provider meeds to send a new hub!

I'm staying at a friend's when they are away and they can only arrange an app in 5 days time but also if Virgin will just send te box i'd rather not install that as there is a sea of wires on thhat cupboard - not that even sending it will be quick.

Is ther earlyy trick to get either tv or wifi working? I'm using a hotspot but it's just working on one corner of the house! I've tried disconneting the tivo box and back on.
Thanks in advance.

Not sure what you’ve read online but I can’t see why it would affect your wifi given smart meters work on a totally separate network!

It’s probably just a coincidence. Are you sure you’ve turned everything back on properly?

I wasn't me who was there when smart meter was installed - everything ooks connected (owners told me where the meter is and I've reconnected the virgn hub too even though it looked fine).
Thank you for that info though - that explanaion has come up many times on google and many complain that meter installers often dot check that everything works afterwards - which they should!

They temporarily disconnect your electricity and gas, meaning your internet goes off among other things. If it’s working correctly this won’t mess it up.

So what would you advise to do if it's not working afetr being disconnected and then connected? Any particular connections to check? I've checked the wires going to the router and tv box on advice of the owners.

Are there lights on the router? Have you phoned the internet provider so they can diagnose the issue. Years ago we had a sky router that failed after some electric work, it didn’t like the unexpected power on and off multiple times in a short time and stopped working. Nothing to do with a smart meter it was just a piece of shit router! A new router fixed it. Is there a BT hotspot nearby? If there is you could pay and connect to that or a friendly neighbour you could piggyback off for a short time?

Thank you TwoBlueFish, the lights on router are

...are on and flashing (three green lights, some flashing). Yesterday I tried to connect the grey leads going from router tighter - one was abit loose bt when I pushed it in more it beeped - I thought maybe that was it, but no still no internet.
I am using bt hotspot - it's a saver but only works in one corner of the house.
Owners did arrange an engineer but still a wait for him.
Router is old and is glued on to surgace in a very busy hot cupboard (lots of equipment) so I can really access it freely to experiment more. Did turn it off/on.
