Party wall notice

Hi All. We are planning an extension in our detached house. I see that a party wall notice should be served if the excavations are within 3m of neighbouring property which it might be. Is the procedure simple? What happens if neighbour disagrees?
i tried contacting a party wall surveyor who is quoting 850 for the process. Not sure if it’s too much as I hear it’s an application form which the home owner can fill.

It can be simple, I downloaded the template from the gov website, copied it into a word doc, upsets the content and then just gave a print out to my neighbours with a agreement form to sign. Also gave them a copy of my structural engineers plans. They signed it without issue about a week later. The harder bit was working out which template applied (all in the end) and figuring out the dates in advance ( one or two months ahead depending on the work).

If they don’t sign it, you have to get a party wall survey which does come to about £1k.

@NCforthis864 - Thanks for the response. The quote of 800 pounds is of there are no disputes I.e to just do the forms which you have done. So seems like I can try on my own
