I am viewing a property in Mottingham this week close to A2 and the station. I wanted to ask if anyone has any ideas what the area is like.

Both of work in Central London and therefore easy commute is imp. As well, we are planning to start a family so that's another consideration for us. Our budget is up to 550-600k for a 3 bed semi.

There are nice bits and less nice bits. I don’t know the area very well, more via friends. The ex LA estate on the right of White Horse Hill as you head north is probably the least desirable section. However from a friend who moved from a Thornton Heath it is much nicer, so it depends on your perspective. There are some very large houses too in Mottingham and on the edge near Elmstead Woods but they’d be mega-bucks.

Good luck with the viewing.

I've lived around that area and nearby areas for quite a few years before moving. Personally I wouldn't move there. It is of course relative in terms of what you are used to but there is not a lot around there and there are a fair few pockets of troubled areas within mottingham. If you could stretch to bromley it is nicer and has more shops. Like this house for example: www.zoopla.co.uk/for-sale/details/62061709/?search_identifier=0888d96401409edc5568ffbf9e7163b0
