3rd thread of 2022 - can't believe I'm still here!

@Timwith2noses did you find your decorators had much availability or did you have to ring round? I’m wondering if I’m too early to book some in pre Xmas or if I’m risking not being ready for them…it’s quite stressful sorting things when timings slip, which they seem to keep doing!
Good luck with your final push!

NewHouseNewMe · 07/11/2022 08:03

@curlyrebel do you have a tin roof overhead? We paid a lot for ours but it meant work happened all through winter/early spring. Just a thought..

@Timwith2noses welcome to my world.. There are a few of us in the final furlong but it is torturously slow. Plumber comes, missing part, leaves.. But progress is being made - we used the oven this weekend and after the bathroom was sealed had an actual shower in my own ensuite!

This week I’m hoping for:

  • A plumbed sink
  • Shower doors and mastic for other en-suites
  • Glass sourced and ordered for front door and internal windows
  • A final decision on the hall/lounge floors!

There are lots of small things left but those things would move us on a lot.

Re screed woes our utility room is a bomb site as the pipes were plumbed in when they weren’t meant to and without insulation. So the floor had to come up and pipe work rerouted. Then the plumber came and put the join where the new concrete and screed would go! This is holding up the screed going in and drying, the floor going down and the kitchen being installed. They charge per week delayed for storage over 4 weeks so we are in trouble!

😬 @NewHouseNewMe . How long will
it take to rectify?
Our site seems quite busy this morning, with more bodies about than usual. They are marking and breaking though the external walls were the steel beams will go, and these arrive tomorrow. This will allow the extension roof to be put on next. And the all the internal removal of walls can start, so my week will consist of sourcing boxes and packing up everything we want to keep safe.
Hope the rest of you have a trouble free week.

We seem to be awaiting plumbers responding to things. Asked the builder when he thought the project would finish - he thinks it could all be completed by end Jan, but he's waiting for timelines from the plumber for UFH etc so can't confirm for definite and that could take it into February.

So definitely not by Christmas anyway Wink

Baxdream · 07/11/2022 12:53

Thanks for the heads up on the discount. I didn't have neff on my blue light but my husband has neff on his!

GardensandGrandDesigns · 07/11/2022 13:03

Oh yes it goes so so slow at the end. My wonderful electrician has 1day left tops but not seen him for 2 weeks.

1 builder here today finishing our mechanical ventilation. No one tomorrow. Wednesday kitchen fitter back to complete the utility and Thursday the carpenters arrive. Biggest thing this week will be moisture tests on the screed. Not being able to lay the floor is pushing everything back.

Martinisarebetterdirty · 07/11/2022 14:05

Exciting times here, just had my very very heavy Lusso bath delivered, currently on the pavement whilst we try and organise enough muscle to get it upstairs. I’m keeping clear to avoid getting in the way and hindering it!

curlyrebel · 07/11/2022 18:59

Thanks for the idea @NewHouseNewMe. Our budget is already stretched but it's an option if the torrential rain continues.

Good luck with your final push!

We booked our decorator in September to come the last week in December before Christmas. He was booked the whole of January February!
Our kitchen arrives in January so it will be decorated before it's fitted, which might be a good thing?
We've used him a lot so I'm sure he'll be flexible if we need him to pop back for touch ups

Martinisarebetterdirty · 07/11/2022 19:47

@GardensandGrandDesigns it is! Thank you, so beautiful, although my lovely plumber was so exhausted from carrying it he went home early 😁. I think someone else has ordered a Lusso one (@Littlemissweepy vague and probably wrong recollections that it’s you) and once unboxed two builders could lift it upstairs (it was a smaller one at 110kg), hopefully this helps because I was so worried we’d need a crane or something to lift it up.

GardensandGrandDesigns · 07/11/2022 19:53

Looking forward to a picture @Martinisarebetterdirty

Timwith2noses · 07/11/2022 22:33

@Martinisarebetterdirty took what we could get re decorating - that’s now December so I would try and book early if you can.

Timwith2noses · 07/11/2022 22:37

I’ve come home to a tiled bathroom and scaffolding gone, radiators and electrics all in and working. Expecting tiler to return tomorrow to do grouting and plumber back Fri for bathroom. Then maybe 1-2 days next week to complete/tidy up. Carpets hopefully being fitted week on Fri.

Thats it bar the decorating and that’s booked in Dec so will start moving bits (and the children) back to their rooms once carpets are down.

I love it when you get one of those miracle days! That's fantastic news. Our builder didn't manage to finish the mv so is back later today!

I have joined the ranks of fake kitchen.

We seem to have loads of people on site every day but no one achieves much....

We bought a paint sprayer and did the mist coat everywhere abd the outside render as the quotes were extortionate. It was easy and took no time at all (for dh not me!)

Tilers back this week and then we will hopefully see some real progress.

Electrician is doing second fix. I should have paid more attention to the sockets as the ones they are putting in are vile. We are so short on cash now though i might just have to leave them to it......

List to completion:
Everything

Martinisarebetterdirty · 08/11/2022 08:37

@GardensandGrandDesigns hope this works! Not plumbed in yet, and the room not painted but it’s at least feeling like progress!

Yes we still have a weird kitchen set up. Loads of kitchen cabinets but no hob and an integrated oven on the floor. The microwave is upstairs as no sockets work in the kitchen! Keep going @NewHouseNewMe you are due the "miracle day" next!

plumstone · 08/11/2022 09:09

@Martinisarebetterdirty that is a true thing of beauty. This week is going to drive me round the bend. Window in hall needs installed, however the joiner would really like the rain to stop for half a day for that to happen - I completely agree, however I don't think I've gone 24 hours since I moved in without rain - so annoying as its the last thing in the hall to be completed.

Painters arrived yesterday and touched up the stairs and the upstairs hall which had a few knocks with the carpet going in. so that's done and they are now paid and done.

Spoke to the electrician again, and he's promised me shower room will be finished and the bath will be plumbed in this week.

Have had final invoices in from the joiner however won't be paid till the bloody window is in. Honestly its becoming annoying, as I keep adding things to the list they need to do when they are in doing the window.

So far its:
replace window
ensure the venting hob is all correct
shelves in kitchen
Silicon the shower room
Hooks on the back of the utility room door
Pictures up in office and spare bedroom

At least the painting is now finished!!

Yellownotblue · 08/11/2022 12:39

Well there’s some progress in the yellow house. The up and over window that crashed two weeks ago was replaced yesterday and is still there today. We are now officially weather tight, except in the kitchen where we’re still missing a small window.

The scaffolding is booked to come down on Friday. I will cry tears of joy when it happens.

Kitchen install is booked for 25 November. Joinery starts next week I think. Tiling is progressing, we’re happy with our giant concrete tiles.

We’ve even started talking about booking movers. This is finally starting to feel real.

Indeed I am also in the lusso stone bath gang (looks fabulous in above pic!) though ages away from having the thing actually here. Remain at a standstill on build. Though progress that I pick up keys to rental tomorrow and we move out/in on Saturday. The inspection meeting to see if we have breached planning rules is Thursday, pray for me!!

I am so bloody pleased for you!! Absolutely great news about the glass and seeing tiles over screed is delightful! We have our next screed moisture test tomorrow 🤞🤞🤞getting floor down will transform our build.

Everything crossed for you, I know how stressful that side of things is.
