New windows

I've recently had new windows fitted throughout the house as the others were like 30 years old. The new ones legally (I believe) have to have vents on them we didn't have a choice. Now when I got to bed I can hear outside noise that I never heard with the old windows. I'm assuming it's because of the vents. I keep getting out of bed because I think I've left window open. I'm so annoyed that I've spent so much and I'm so disappointed in them. Has anyone else found this with new windows?

You don't have to have vents but if you do you should be able to close them

I thought replacement windows didn’t have to have them fitted ( mine didn’t ) .
only new buildings have to have them to meet building regs ?

to me they will always be a weak spot on the window for cold and noise even with them closed, as it’s just a thin piece of plastic between inside and out.

You could try stuffing some foam/ insulation in them then keeping them closed ? Then if you want some ventilation just open the window slightly as and when you need to.

I was told after 15th June or something like that, all windows had to have them?!

You're right, it changed in June.

I don’t see the point of putting them on all windows, if people are going to keep them closed then they are not going to do anything. Is someone going to come to you house to check they are open and are ventilating properly ? No.

I don't see the point either. I open the windows all day in summer from morning till night and in winter for at kwaat a few hours a day to let some fresh air in.

I'm annoyed now as can hear noises whereas before I couldn't.
