Living in W Hampstead behind railway line, Noise?

Hi all,
Considering moving on a street in W Hampstead, with the thameslink right behind it. Can anyone please share what I could expect in terms of noise and other effects of being next to the railway?

Also planning on visiting myself when I have the chance, but curious to hear others experiences.

Thank you!

I considered a couple of places backing onto/very close to a railway line. Apparently it's also important to consider the disruption of works to the railway line which will always be done overnight as well as the actual train noise.

One I ruled out on viewing as the train noise was incredibly loud even inside with all doors/windows shut. The other was fine (but I didn't go for it for other reasons).

most of the railway lines in west hampstead are well below the level of the houses so you probably wont' hear much. and train noise is must less disruptive than car noise.

but there are probably only 100 people in the world backing onto that particular bit of railway and I doubt they are all on mumsnet on a friday am. you'll just have to visit for yourself.

I lived on the opposite side to the Thameslink (the side in West Hampstead that backs onto the rail line for the tube and the overground) for 4 years and previous to that I lived next to the mainline going into Euston. You do phase it out any noise quickly..
The services get less frequent at night on the Thameslink and there’s quite steep banking so that will help reduce the levels.
West Hampstead is a nice area and really convenient for transport.

Isn't this the 24/7 line that runs all the way to the south coast?
