We put our property on the market end of January.
Offer in Feb.
Found a property in March but had to leave it due to issues getting a mortgage on it.
Found another property in April we placed an offer.
In early May the sellers placed an offer on a house.. it had no chain so chain was complete.
Here's the fun part.
We moved out in June to rent with family as told completion on our sale was very soon, can we rent please to move it forward, our buyer moved out into a hotel as they had sold.
Everything with the sale of our house was done but our management agency had to release it and prove they were in charge (or not) of maintaining the property.. This took 2 months as the council and management agency wouldn't accept responsibility for the property... In the end we finally got this sorted with the solicitors but was a nightmare.
Meantime our buyer is ringing panicking as they can't afford to keep paying hotel fees. Finally in early August we sold our house.
It's taken a month to get both solicitors to actually freaking communicate and confirm 2 minor details that literally take one phonecall. With our sellers solicitors saying they haven't heard a thing.
We are on our 3rd day of trying to exchange. Completion set next week.
Send prayers. 🙏

That sounds pretty much exactly what just happened to us except that we moved in with family last year, then family turned out to be creepy and our sale fell through so we moved back home and put said home back on the market in Feb this year. We completed on Friday so it was almost seven months of pissing around this time round. Our buyers were in a hotel too, which just adds another layer of stress because I felt guilty that they had to pay all the hotel fees. 🙈 Our solicitors also attempted exchange for four days straight, screwed up and we ended up with a simultaneous exchange and completion in a chain of four and it absolutely sucked.

So I know what it's like and it's awful! Sending prayers and crossing my fingers you manage to exchange before completion so you can get organised and maybe set up a post redirection on time too. 😃

@SpaceyCake

We exchanged same day I posted this thread so over the moon!

Honestly the whole thing has been a nightmare from start to finish. We were told 3 to 5 months as an estimate from starting to ending the process.
I am never, ever renting and selling again honest to God. Think if we ever move in future we will be buying and selling same day. Bloody solicitors.

Well just need to wait for completion on Tuesday now, and all the stress that comes with moving itself, but at least we will own a home again. Wine

Also good idea on the post redirection thing. I have to ring so many people. Sad
