Hi all,

we are 9.5 weeks in, we are FTB have mortgage in place, searches done & signed contracts, we are in a chain of 3 houses. When I called the solicitors last Friday I was told that they emailed top of chain 1st September for an update to find out exchange dates, a cpl of weeks prior to this there were enquires when i asked friday the solicitor told me thats all sorted now, so my question is, could it be that top of chain just have slower solicitors to not reply in over a week? also how long do I give it before chasing our solicitor again? our EA agent is no use nor ornament, hard to get hold of, quite rude and does not give much info...

Thanks all x

9.5 weeks in is not long at all.
Presumably the second and third people in your chain haven't even been going for as long as you, so their transactions are slightly behind yours in terms of progress.
The average length of a transaction is around 4-5 months at the moment.
If you are chasing all the time, you will stress yourself out and you will be interrupting and delaying the solicitor's work. Try to be patient.

You have two threads?

Your EA's job is pretty much done. They can try and smooth some waters and act as a go between but really it's between solicitors now and as pointed out it's not that far into the process really. Everyone has to agree so the top solicitor is dealing with the middle one as well as yours. Chase again in a week (though your solicitor should be keeping you informed with any updates so you shouldn't have to).
