Diagonal stripe carpet- does it exist?

Usernamenotavailabletryanother · 11/09/2022 19:23

I’m desperate for some brown/beige and black thick diagonal stripes in a room we’re decorating. I would like carpet rather than painted floorboards, but it seems it doesn’t exist… has anyone seen any?

Have a look at Carpetright website.

TooMuchToDoTooLittleInclination · 11/09/2022 19:28

This is the second odd carpet request today, the other wanted herringbone carpet (was it you?)

I don't think you'll find diagonal striped carpet. I think manufacturing & laying would both be a nightmare.

you could get a large striped rug & lay it at a jaunty angle.

Good Luck though.

NoParticularPattern · 11/09/2022 19:31

Unless your room is absolutely perfectly square (not as in the actual shape- as in the corners are all exactly 90 degrees and there’s no points at all that run out of plumb) then it would be a nightmare to fit for it not to look absolutely dreadful. I expect that’s probably why it’s borderline impossible to find one

Am I missing something, but could you not buy horizontal/ vertical striped carpet and have it fitted on a diagonal? You'd need more of it because of the wasted corners but if you are desperate wouldn't that do it?

Usernamenotavailabletryanother · 11/09/2022 19:49

Haha, had no idea I was the second request! The herringbone-wanter is not me I’m afraid. Good luck to them, though. Perhaps we should team up?

Theres such a gap in the market for patterned carpet, have tried everywhere I can think of (including Carpetright) even thought about a custom made one (THE PRICE 😳).

Not giving up hope just yet…

I would 100% do this- just can’t find any. It’s all grey narrow stripes. I want thick brown/beige and black stripes.

Are these wide enough to lay diagonaly?
Although you might end up with a join in the carpet unless you have a small room?

Usernamenotavailabletryanother · 11/09/2022 20:59

Thanks for looking- I’m afraid the stripes are too thin.

is that the sort of stripe thickness you’re after @Usernamenotavailabletryanother ?

Get 2 pieces in the colours you want and then find an old-fashioned carpet fitter that will cut and sew them thé way you want.

Or you could use carpet tiles.

Carpet right. X

Not sure if they sell in the uk but you could try flor carpet tiles or similar (make your own, lay them diagonally and cut the corners off)

Thank you- stripes are a bit narrow but would work if the colours were right. I actually ordered a sample of that and it was very grey.

Yes, I think you’re right- have found carpet tiles which would work, but DH thinks it will feel too officey and harsh underfoot. I’m steeling myself to ask some carpet fitters- expecting a big NO 😂

That site looks good, @Aria999 but I think they are US only. Thanks for looking.

In case anyone is interested, I may have found somewhere to make it for me affordably 🤞

Also, found some great herringbone carpet if anyone knows who was looking?

IrisVersicolor · 14/09/2022 22:38

I love herringbone carpet it looks really good on stairs.

There’s a reason why wide diagonal stripe carpet doesn’t exist imo. 😂

NellyBarney · 17/09/2022 00:22

Sounds like you found something! If it doesn't work put, you could always try and paint a plain carpet with upholstery paint.

Have you found what OP is looking for in carpet right?

please post it - it would really help her and save her having it custom made.
