Magnesite flooring woes - can i lay carpet?

Can anyone help please? My house is 1950s ex LA and has magnesite flooring. I am clueless all things DIY and did not know this.

I have had laminate flooring down for 2 plus years in my living room and there has never been an issue. I recently had a wall knocked down to extend my living room. The other side/dining room had magnesite too but this was cracked and in bad condition. It has since been dug up, screeded/damp proofed and screeded. The living room side is still magnesite (although now all one big room). As the floor isn't 100% level across the two subfloors it's quite tricky to fit the laminate so it flows through the room without raising at some joins. I am so fed up of trying to make my house a home and failing that i am thinking, do i buy carpet? Can i lay carpet on top of magnesite subflooring?

I fear the answer may be to rip up the living room side which is about twice as big as the room it's now extended into. It was very expensive to have done. I don't know what to do

Please advise
