After completion - anything I need to know?

Hi all, finally completed on my purchase (it has been a rollercoaster). All moved in. Is there anything I need to look out for in terms of paperwork, i.e. from solicitors etc. More specifically that my stamp duty is paid. Sorry may be a silly question, but just want to make sure I am looking out for anything

They will send you a copy of your title deeds once you are registered but the Land Registry is taking ages at the moment. HMRC will soon let you know if they think your SDLT hasn’t been paid (it will have been).

On moving day take meter readings for both properties.

Don't just rely on the outgoing people to be accurate like I did years ago...

It takes ages to hear from land registry - we completed in June and haven't heard yet. We have statement from solicitor showing the SDLT was paid.

Read meters, make sure utility companies have the readings, contact water company, council tax. Electoral roll registration.

Make a will.
Redirect post at the post office. Update address on driving licence and other documents/accounts. If you have bought a flat, make sure the the freeholder/management company have been notified of the transfer (solicitor should do this, but best to make sure). Also check that any transferable guarantees have been transferred .

Yeah our solicitor failed to pay the SDLT despite having the funds. But HMRC didn’t forget to send us a notification of a fine! They will let you know very quickly if the tax isn’t paid by the due date.

Thanks all. All admin stuff done (meter readings, post redirection, contact utilities). Just wanted to know about the more important stuff, which everyone has answered, thanks all
