Swimming pool in the garden

I'm talking the metal framed type ones 3mx2m if it makes any difference.

If you have one of these type of pool when do you drain them and take them down? We went on holiday and neglected it for a week and there bugs in it so I'm trying to work out if I drain it for the winter or clean it with a net and shock it with choline for a few more weeks.

Southeast UK if it makes any difference.

We drained ours. The reason being we wanted fresh water after the winter as it will get mucky and the standard Intex pool filter will struggle to clean it for opening. But we drained it in the spring and once cleaned we refilled it and maintained it - so we left it over winter.

We've drained ours now.

Put it back up again in April

Ours is drained. Also SE and it's not warm enough anymore. Plus we normally drain a bit off and top up even with chlorine and I think we're still on a hosepipe ban.

JessicaPeach · 07/09/2022 13:20

We drained ours last week. We usually get it back up in the first run of hot weather

PuttingDownRoots · 07/09/2022 13:24

Weve drained ours. It was either that or topping up with the hosepipe which didn't seem right currently.

Thank you. I think this weekend will be the last. Even though the kids think they want it in the winter 🤣

Another question if I can. Where do you store it? Is a garage ok? What about the heater and pump?

Sorry so many questions.

We drained ours last weekend. We store it (together with heater and filter) in big gardening bags in the garage.

Agree with all the previous posters about taking down now - we stored ours in the garage but a mouse ate a hole in it!!

Rosieandtwinkle · 07/09/2022 14:38

We’ve just drained ours. It’s stored in a massive plastic crate in the garage to protect it from mice over the winter! Everything fits in there nicely….something like this…www.argos.co.uk/product/1516593. Can’t remember the exact size!

Yes we just keep it all in the garage. Usually give it a bit of a wash and let it dry thoroughly before putting away so you might want to wait until we are expecting a bit of dry weather

AllThingsServeTheBeam · 07/09/2022 18:12

Ours is in the garage. But high up. In case of mice!

glassdarker · 07/09/2022 19:06

We drained ours before our holiday. Would have cleaned and refilled for a few more weeks but hosepipe ban. We drain, clean and put all the summer stuff in it and cover with a tarp for winter.
