Someone knocked on my door in Hartlepool

I just moved to Cornwall St recently, and there was a guy knocking on my door at midnight yesterday. Of course, I didn't answer it, but I'm still curious about this area. Is this area safe? Is there anything I should be aware of? If anyone could give me more info about this area I would be grateful.

Do you know anything about the people who lived there before you? Could have been someone they knew.
You did right not opening the door.

I done a swap from my old home to this one, about 8 years ago now.
Had been here a few weeks when the door went (was early though, late afternoon not midnight).
Son opened door and it turned out the guy thought the previous tenant still lived here. Apologised and left.

@PickAChew I have done some research before, and the crime rate seems not too bad to me as I have lived in a place with a worse crime rate. Actually, I'm wondering if anyone has more information that is not on the internet.

Where do you live, @Boreded or are you just being facetious?

Some bits of hartlepool are pretty dire but most of it is just bog standard normal residential area, like many towns

I was being funny, I love pretty locally and some parts of Hartlepool are ROTTEN, I’m obviously not stupid enough to think the whole of it is awful, just most of it

Not from near there and this happened to me too the other night. Just a quick knock on the front door. Didn’t open it. It was obvious I was up and downstairs though as lights were on (curtains closed). Freaked me out. It was like 11.30pm.

Someone trying their luck to bust in if you open? Or some drunk wandering down tapping on doors? Can’t think of other reason?

Could it be a deliveroo delivery, who then realised they read the door number/street incorrectly and swiftly left? Eg an 8 looked like a 6?

Oddly enough, OP, I had a tapping on my door at around 1.00 this morning . Only the once though.
Was possibly what @Alphabet1spaghetti2 suggested, especially round here.
