Just wondering if anyone has experience of having a small wind turbine in their garden to generate electricity for the home?
I live on the west coast of Ireland with about 2 acres and surrounded by fields and nearest neighbour is some distance away. It’s very windy here a lot of the time too. I currently have a small solar panel with attached battery to power the electric netting for my chicken run (less than a dozen hens and they’re my pets, not a business).
I also have a wood burner stove and in winter I burn the accumulated cat litter plus poos that I collect in a bin. The cat litter is wood pellets. As the stove has a door, you don’t get any smell and I see it as a useful extra bit of fuel.
I recently started thinking about alternative energy and heat sources and wondered if anyone has a small wind turbine in their back garden who can offer some advice on how they’ve found it?
I wanted to invest in solar panels for the roof but they’re ridiculously expensive to buy here and there’s no option to sell excess energy back to the grid. Unfortunately, the govt. only consider farmers needs when they’re looking at the rural economy. Farmers can get hefty discounts and grants towards alternative energy provision but ordinary householders get zero help.
Any thoughts or suggestions for where to find further information? Thank you!
