Is an indemnity policy worth it or are they a scam?

We are in the process of selling and buying and in both cases the solicitors are pushing indemnity policies for the most small/unnecessary things, and in some cases they are really expensive!

has anyone actually had to use these policies once they had brought the property because the scenario actually happened? Or am I being cynical in thinking they are a massive scam?!

appreciate anyones experiences with this

What are they actually supposed to be cover for?

It would help if you gave more detail.

They're not usually prohibitively expensive though, don't think I've paid more than £80-100 in the past.

We had one when we lived on a lane which apparently belonged to nobody, so that if some claimant popped up and tried to bar our access, we could enforce it, pay for it or whatever.

it didn’t happen, but it was worth it for the peace of mind. Wasn’t very expensive but it is so long ago that the price is pointless.
