Tiled kitchen floor

Our fitter has recommended a darker grout for our kitchen floor tiles. Does anyone have a light grout? Are you happy with it and is it easy to keep clean or has it stained easily?

Thanks!

I'm in a muddle with choosing the flooring and we've more or less decided on porcelain tiles which would also be in the hallway and the dining area of the kitchen too as well as the utility room. So a large area to get wrong! 🤦🏼‍♀️

I think the tiles we originally looked at are a bit light but a shade darker with dark grout might look awful.

I have darker grout in the kitchen and lighter in the bathroom. They have both been down 12 years. The darker grout is still ok, but the lighter grout in the bathroom definitely needs redoing now. I have used grout cleaner on it and scrubbed with a brush and it made no difference. I would not recommend a light grout. I love the look of ceramic tiles, but they are awful to keep the grout looking nice, and I don’t think I would have tiles again.

We've got oak parquet tiles with a dark grout, definitely looks better than a light coloured one! I went with the theory that a darker shade would be less noticeable (like using a slightly darker thread when you're sewing 😉) Dark grout is also much more forgiving from a discolouration - think spilled coffee/tea etc!!

From a discolouration...point of view....oh for an edit button!!!

Our kitchen floor has been down for 14 years and the dark grout is still as good as the day the tiles were laid. I'd always choose dark grout over light for floors in high traffic areas.

Thanks all - dark grout it is then 😁

We have dark grout. I’d never choose light grout now!

We have tiles which look like wood planks. The grout is a sort of grey colour which looks really nice. One piece of advice- don't skimp on price. We bought quite cheap tiles from Wickes and they chip so easily ( think teaspoon dropped from surface height...)

Thanks, great advice. I love your floor @Soontobe60. Ours is similar. Did you go for underfloor heating? We've been trying to work out whether or not we should.
