Trying again - a ramble

Hi all
I had a purchase fall through in the summer, after having my offer accepted in January. Total waste of time and effort.

Can't find the thread I was on originally, with amihavingagiraffe Eastie and others who have all hopefully moved!

I didn't keep an eye on the market after I made my offer. Has much changed? Looking for a flat - as that's what's in budget - in London/Essex border areas.

. A new build would be ideal, not least because you don't have to worry about anyone pulling out. There are no new builds in my price range except one that turns out to have lots of disadvantages.

If anyone remembers my thread, my elderly mother continues to get more frail, and the taxi fare has gone so high, it's not really feasible. If I don't move, I am faced with maybe spending 2-3 nights a week at hers, which is beyond depressing.

Though perhaps after looking again, I'll decide it's the lesser of two evils.

Also dithering on area, perhaps I'm in a position where the flat is more important than location.

Argh.

We've completed but haven't moved. Wink. Still sorting out getting building work done. We're hoping to move in before Christmas. It's just gone past a year since the whole thing started and we put our old house on the market.

Riding so is your house sold?

is it less manic out there, do you think?

Yes we sold in December as we were going into rented. Then we found a house to buy in March and completed just before the summer holidays.

There definitely seems to be less coming on the market here. And I've noticed houses are hanging around for longer.

@EmmaH2022, am completing today. What a rollercoaster. You will get there!!!

EmmaH2022 · 02/09/2022 11:09

Thanks Riding and giraffe

i'm glad you are all sorted. I dread starting again but if things have slowed down, that's a very good sign. The market was frantic when I was looking and that was awful.

also hoping flats aren't still going for over the asking price!

Hi @EmmaH2022 remember you from that old thread we were all on. So sorry to hear your purchase fell through. If I remember correctly you had concerns all along about the property or the vendor. Did you decide on moving to Harlow in the end as I saw you on another thread asking about the area?

I finally completed in March and we moved in a couple of months ago. It’s been a bit of a rollercoaster with the renovations including a fiasco with a terrible builder. It’s all in another thread I started a while back. Thankfully after threatening him with legal action he agreed to pay back money for some shockingly shoddy work and we are hopefully back on track with another builder. I thought the stress ended when I finally completely, how naive😂

Wave to @areyouhavingagiraffe so glad to bear you got there in the end, congrats!!

EmmaH2022 · 02/09/2022 18:23

Hi Eastie sorry to hear you had all that.

hopefully giraffe is celebrating right now.

at this point, I don't know where I am going. I really want space, and given how much time I spend in my flat, that should be priority, but I also don't want to end up in an area as overcrowded as my current one.

this weekend, I will have to sit down and look all over again. Dreading it. But if the market is less nuts, then it might not be as bad as last time. Mainly curious to know if things are still going for well over asking price.
