Neighbours

We have just moved into a new property a few months ago with elderly neighbours below us and from the offset they have constantly complained about our washing machine. We have been patient and understanding and have put foam insulation under machine and apologised numerous times. But as a family with 2 young children we have to use machine as needed they have also refused to let us install a sky dish and have been abusive to myself and 4 sky engineers. I feel like the neighbours have took a dislike to us from the start and we have tried to be nice giving them flowers etc..but they called police to us for petty things the lady said someone moved her doormat and someone had been in her garden ..I feel strongly that they are trying to push us out ..but as we have bought the house we have no option to move...we have have tried to talk to them and come to an agreement but they refuse to listen and and are abusive.

Keep a diary of incidents. Keep things civil/ignore and don't use the washing machine too early or too late. Don't let your little ones be loud too early in the morning, if possible (playing loud.)

I'm confused if you're in a flat or a house? Check any covenants to see if you have any restrictions on the sky dish. If not then they can't stop you/sky doing what you want on your home. How are they doing this? You may need to get some advice on this.

Also get a ring doorbell. I'm sorry this has happened. Some people just thrive on being horrible and this is your home. You deserve the right to enjoy it.

Thank you for the advice I have been now keeping a log of all incidents with our neighbours. We are in an attic flat directly above our neighbours but we do always try to keep noise to a minimum as we are out working all day and kids have hobbies after school cubs brownies football etc we aren't in that much. We have tried 4 different sky engineers to try and fit sky dish and even looked at sky glass but the cost is too much compared to what package we have been on .. the neighbours below seem to think as they have been here for so many years that they own the whole building we have explained many times that the deeds prove we have every right to put sky dish on roof as we own the property above but every time there is an engineer present they are aggressive and abusive..also I think we will definitely be looking to fit a ring doorbell as a precaution.

Have the Sky engineers left because of the abuse from your neighbours- if so id be reporting all of those incidents to the police. You cant let them scare you out of your home. Id be respectful ie not washing late at night etc but wouldnt stop living my life for them.

Do you have carpets down or wooden floor etc - noise travels terribly on laminate/wood flooring

Hi there yes we've had 4 different sky engineers and the last occasion the lady left and abandoned her tools and equipment because of the abuse she was receiving I had reported it to the police but the neighbours denied all knowledge.
and the only time we have put washing machine on is during the day but the neighbour still complains.
We have all carpets in house as well so their shouldn't be a lot of noise from us walking about.
We will try not to let them push us out but it's the constant harassment we are receiving that's just getting too much.
It feels like we are walking on egg shells constantly and if we call police or reported anything it seems to make things worse.
