Lichfield: are there enough GPs?

Hi all,

We're (me, husband, 2 kids: 3&4) hoping to move out of London and into Lichfield at some point. We've visited the area a couple times and really liked it. However, I saw in a previous thread that the influx of new builds resulted in a shortage of certain amenities like GPs and schools. Is this correct? My husband is diabetic and needs frequent GP input, so it would be really helpful if there wasn't such a long wait for normal appointments.

As for the schools, this night be the case for secondary, as there seems to be enough primaries. Are they all oversubscribed?

I fell so deeply in love with the city when we first visited, but don't want to risk moving to an area if we know we'll struggle with the basics.

Can't comment on Lichfield specifically but having moved to a new town just recently we did find that registering with a GP was not an issue.
What we did find out (and this also applied for the vet) was that you can register when moving into the area but if you already live there, most (all?) surgery's will not allow you to move to another practice.

There is a lack of GPs everywhere. The new build thing may or may not be true - money for the GP surgery will be built into the planning application but if they can't recruit GPs then they can't expand to meet demand. I do think its just a lottery wherever you go though.

@Dougieowner is that right? Where did you move to, if you don't mind me asking.

@solarbirdscalm makes sense. Thank you.

Absolutely true about the GPs unfortunately, impossible to get an appointment. All the schools are decent, it would depend on where in Lichfield you moved which ones your children would get into.
