MOVING HEAVY FURNITURE IN ORDER TO PAINT A ROOM

chinwagger · 27/08/2022 17:41

Which trade would I employ to move furniture so that we can paint behind it please? It is far too heavy for us to move and it would need putting back when finished. Thanks in advance for any tips on this.

A local handyman?

Empty things and get these: Furniture Sliders for Carpet X-PROTECTOR – Moving Pads 8 pcs 9cm Sliders for Furniture - Move Your Furniture Easy with Reusable Furniture Movers Sliders for Carpets! amzn.eu/h8GNpRL

They make easy work if moving things providing you can tilt things to get them under.

Hi thanks for the tip but we are an older couple and even with those sliders and emptying the furniture it would still be too heavy me thinks.

Do you have any neighbours with teenage sons that would pop round for 10 minutes for a few quid?

Reagol · 27/08/2022 21:18

...or daughters. Women can lift heavy furniture, too.

Can you take them apart at all, we are decorating and are going to take the wardrobes apart then rebuild them as we need new carpet as well as wallpaper and paint, they weren't flatpack ones.

🙄Yes of course some can but it's not sexist to acknowledge that women have on average 40-60% the strength of men, as well as on average being shorter and having a smaller wingspan. I strength train and can squat 80kg but I still ask men to help with this type of task.

Yes I’d try and get done neighbours’ / friends’ teens to help for a tenner.

DH is 72 and I am 62 with RA. With decent sliders we can move anything. They are utterly magic.

Everyone we know is an older but I will keep looking for a youngster who needs a bit of cash. Thanks
