How long has your house purchase taken [so far]??

I had an offer accepted in mid-June; no chain. I've had my mortgage offer through and the survey done. There is an issue with ownership of an outbuilding so the vendors are sorting that out with the Land Registry. Searches not done yet but unlikely to be anything tricky there.

I'm hoping that I might be in by the end of October but realistically who knows. I've no idea how long the LR are taking to process casework at the moment. Once that's sorted it should all be pretty quick.

I've spent almost all this morning chasing people. Very slow buyers solicitors - but apparently my buyers are equally frustrated with their slowness. I'd be camping on their flipping doorstep until I was satisfied they were cracking on with it.

The only good thing to come out of this is that my buyers are just as keen to get on with it...but it's in their hands. I can do no more.

movingonup2022 · 13/10/2022 19:16

Another day of trying to get answers and no one calling us back. Tomorrow is an easier day though work-wise so should be able to chase people first thing and hopefully get some clarity on what happens next and when.

dubyalass · 13/10/2022 21:56

I feel both your pain! I've decided that I've done what I can, it's out of my hands. Just thinking about it makes me angry and stressed but who knows, in the current market maybe they're doing me a favour.

Update .. all enquiries are back , they are hoping for us to exchange next week . I'm not holding my breath

Sunbird24 · 14/10/2022 15:52

Email from my solicitor this afternoon, my buyers need to complete by the end of the month so all systems go!

blibblibs · 14/10/2022 17:50

Spoke to my solicitor twice today, no movement, sellers solicitors not taking/returning her calls so no idea if paperwork has even been sent to land registry yet. They know that we won't be proceeding after 28 Oct so fuck knows what is going on.
I have a sinking feeling this isn't going to happen 😔

Walkermiss · 14/10/2022 18:22

Our Solicitor phoned this morning (9.15am!) asking if we're ok to exchange today and complete end of October (we'd agreed the completion date yesterday) as others in chain are agreeable. Of course we said yes. We were so excited and foolishly told our family and friends. We hadn't heard anything by 4.45 so I rang our Solicitor who said, "Ah, no sorry. No happening today. I don't know why. Maybe next week"!!!. Really! You couldn't make this up. Another weekend of stress!

DelurkingAJ · 14/10/2022 18:26

I have found my people. We had an agreed date, all the way up and down the chain and then our benighted solicitor realised they’d been sent the wrong certificate for something. But apparently easy to sort so we ran around like headless chickens finding removal people and now it’s ‘unlikely’ we’ll complete on the expected date and I would like to punch a wall. Why is it so stressful and why don’t people just do their job??? I imagine everyone else in the chain is cursing us but we had been assured it was just ‘a final check of the paperwork’. Argh!

Walkermiss · 14/10/2022 18:32

I understand that sometimes mistakes with paperwork can be a hold up but having no idea why it hasn't happened today is torture! A simple email explaining the situation would have been nice but I had to chase to get the little information I have. I'm spending ££££ for a service that quite frankly isn't delivering. Are my expectations unrealistic?

FuzzyPuffling · 14/10/2022 18:36

I've had nothing today. Nit a single communication from anyone.
Monday morning I shall be onto the sales progressor and getting grumpy. I am getting beyond annoyed with my buyers solicitors who have done absolutely nothing for three weeks.

blibblibs · 14/10/2022 19:42

Looks like I'm not alone 😔 I actually told my solicitor again today that if I did my job this badly I wouldn't still have it. They thought I was talking about the sellers solicitor but I meant them both!
Sellers estate agent wouldn't even speak to me today and she's usually pretty helpful.
Just tell me what is going on and if it has all gone horribly wrong I can use some of the deposit money on a holiday to get over the stress of it all.

SuperlativeOxymoron · 14/10/2022 20:27

I called my solicitor for an update... to be told she's on annual leave this week!😡😠😡😤😡😠😡😤

I spoke to her Monday for fucks sake!!!! She could have told me she was fucking off rather than assuring me if enquiries are back this week (the lady I spoke to said they are and they're awaiting checking) we could finalise stuff ready for a half term move, so I asked her if the end if next week is likely. She said no. I want to punch a wall too!!!!

Finally spoke to the sales progressor today who said he got confused between our case and another case when he told us on Wednesday “we’d be exchanging soon and hoping to complete on 18th” honestly I could cry. Apparently the whole chain is near enough ready there’s just something about the top of the chain and a septic tank which needs clarifying. Our vendor has said he’s happy to move out before the rest of the chain is ready, if need be. We have made it abundantly clear that we have to complete in November at the extreme latest. We’ve agreed to give it until Wednesday to see if this septic tank issue is resolved and we’re talking exchange dates, if not we’re going to have to push for earlier completion with just our vendor. Aaaaaand here we are another weekend Grin

Mine is aswel from this week until the 24th .. I only found out because I'd chased up an enquiry. I'm not very happy about it at all and the stand in isn't in the loop on my purchase

dubyalass · 15/10/2022 09:01

I had a call from the estate agent yesterday afternoon to say they weren't ignoring me and they finally have the contact details for the third party solicitors. Quite why it has taken over a month to find these out is beyond me. Whether they've actually picked up the phone to them is another matter entirely.

I am getting increasingly suspicious that there is some stalling going on, although for what reason I don't know.

OP posts:
dubyalass · 15/10/2022 09:03

Also why on earth aren't the vendors pushing this too? It's sitting there empty and has been for nearly a year (probate sale) - they must be paying council tax on it now.

Marluuu · 15/10/2022 09:03

Too.bloody.long
and that’s although there is no chain and no other complications. 4 months and no completion date in sight. But I think that’s mainly because my solicitor is absolutely rubbish (and still expensive)

Until this point I'd say she has been brilliant.
But who the hell goes on holiday without communicating it to their client or handing it over to a colleague? That's the bare minimum in my previous role!!

Sunbird24 · 15/10/2022 10:26

On a positivé note, because this has taken longer than originally expected, hopefully some of us are actually benefiting from the cut to Stamp Duty?

Fingers crossed that doesn’t get reversed…

Oh god I know 😩 if they reverse it that's my oak flooring out the window .

Bedsheets4knickers · 15/10/2022 10:37

I'm really starting to hate weekends.
I should be using them to start getting organised but it's hard to motivate myself when we don't even have a date .

Muddypaws20 · 15/10/2022 10:49

Db and family had offer accepted last November, finally have a moving date for 11th November so it's been 12 months. Only 4 in the chain but loads of issues.

Same here - I have numerous cupboards and a loft and wardrobes I could be sorting out, and I have zero boxes so far, but I feel like I’ll be jinxing things if I sort anything like that!

dubyalass · 16/10/2022 09:38

I could be packing stuff in boxes but there's no end in sight for me either. Plus I'm renting and have inspections every three months so I don't want them turning up and seeing lots of boxes everywhere when I haven't yet given notice!

OP posts:
FuzzyPuffling · 16/10/2022 09:45

We've packed stuff we don't use often but we've still got to live in this house, and with no date to move I absolutely dread having to unpack it all.
