Heated airers - worth it?

We're moving into a new house in a few weeks that doesn't have space for a tumble dryer. At some point in the next two years we'll hopefully extend and put in a little utility room unless the current economic crisis finishes us off but in the meantime, how well do heated airers work? Are they expensive to run? Pros/cons over just hanging clothes on the radiator? Does it make the house feel damp?
We'll be a family of 4 (2 adults, a toddler, and a newborn) and do about 4 loads a week, but don't tend to do more than 1 on any given day.

I think it depends how much you have the heating on.

One of my dc has one and it heats the room beautifully so they just put it up in the living room and don't have the heating on. It does dry the clothes well.

The other option is a dehumidifier - I have been amazed how well they suck the moisture out of clothes. The difference in drying time between putting clothes on an airer near a radiator with, and without a dehumidifier is amazing. Plus, makes you wonder where all that damp was going before.
