To move or extend?!

So we nearly sold 3 times last year but it kept falling through as we couldn't find anywhere (needed not a box room for son plus a spare room for grandparents to visit). We accepted this and are about to start extending, plus we love our quiet safe street with lovely neighbours, and it's a five minute walk from both primary and secondary school.
My in laws are very keen on us moving, and recently said they would help us substantially. A house has just come back on the market that we can't afford, but could with them...it looks like everything we want, but would mean leaving our street and not having many neighbours (it's round the back of other houses on the street), plus giving the kids a much longer walk/bike to school. This worries me as the kids have ASD and if they find secondary school difficult I'd rather it only took them 5 minutes to get home.
We can't decide what is best, and also whether it's better to have a quick move or a year of noise and building works (our pets won't like the latter either).
We also have financial concerns that even with parents help it's not a good idea to commit to something this expensive - our original mortgage plan for a larger property was worked out before bills went up.
The owners of this other house want a quick sale as they're in a chain, so we need to decide quickly. What would you do?!

From the way your post is worded, it doesn't sound to me like you want to move.

I don't like putting myself under financial pressure so for that reason alone I wouldn't move. Even with the help of your in-laws it sounds like you can't afford that house.

don't move. plan your extension carefully and hire good builders to get it done with minimum fuss.
