living near an airport

About to put down in offer on a house to goat the seaside in Ramsgate. It's been a long held dream! Today heard that the government has given the go ahead to make Manston airport in Kent, 2 miles away, a 'freight hub, with night flights not forbidden and plans to expand to passenger flights. This is against planning advice btw. I will be one mile to the left of the main flight path two miles from the airport. Has anyone else lived this close. Should I just start looking for a home elsewhere?

I'm a military brat and was raised on airforce bases. The noise never bothered us although it was constant. But then trains and traffic doesnt bother me but arguments and loud music does.

I would try and stay a couple of nights near it to see and ask neighbors about the noise.

I used to live closer than that to Heathrow. You get used to it very quickly.

We live under a flightpath and you really do get used to it very quickly

I lived a few miles from Heathrow for about 6 years, and the aircraft noise was awful, I never got used to it. I was on the landing flight path and woken up in the early hours through double glazed windows. Watching TV in the Summer with the patio doors open meant turning the volume really loud when a plane went over so you could hear, then turning it down again because it was blaring without the aircraft noise, rinse repeat (or don't enjoy open doors and windows). Before anyone says, why did you live there, it was a dirt cheap rental. I'd never pay real money to live near a major airport.

The house I've now bought (soon to be paid off, due to cheap rental above!) has major aircraft going over at the lowest 10,000 feet and I'm near (4 miles+) a couple of private airports and the planes we do get are interesting vintage, private jets, helicopters and not intrusive.

Flight Radar 24 is a good app to show what plane traffic a location gets. OP realise your base isn't operational yet.
