Worried about completion

We're going into a new build and first time buyers are purchasing our house, we exchanged on Friday.

The buyers solicitors have been terrible, it has been a comedy of errors, they couldn't even get their names correct for the contract and had advised they were using a 10% deposit when this wasn't the case, this was just the latest in a whole string of events.

I am 38 weeks pregnant and terrified that it will go wrong on completion! (this Friday)

Would I be unreasonable to ask our estate agent to check with them that they have requested release of funds? Any other advice also welcome.

Your solicitor should have done this already when setting up the exchange. I know my solicitor did, which is how we learnt my buyers were using help to buy and there would be a delay whilst funds were released. We had similarly useless FTB/cheap solicitors and have learnt the lesson - next time I sell I will insist the buyer uses a high street or local firm as we nearly lost our purchase thanks to their delays and errors this time around. Good luck for your move, now you past exchange it should all be ok

Getting exchanged is the big one. It is very expensive to mess it up now. Take a deep breath and try to relax. Yes, Friday might not be smooth sailing, but it is extremely likely to go ahead.

Enjoy your new home 🍾

They'll have a massive penalty if they mess up completion, it's on them to sort it out but I understand your concerns. Doesn't harm to ask about funds in place but it's ultimately not in your control or your responsibility.
