Weird moisture extractor or air purifier machine?

Hi, we've just seen a house we really like and would like to make an offer, but we've found something strange in one of the rooms and hope someone might be able to shed a light or has an ideas about what it might be? It looked like a large white appliance similar to an air purifier but it had a wide tumble dryer type hose attached to it and fixed through the floor going downstairs? I have absolutely no idea what it might be and the person showing us around (not an estate agent didn't know). Just worried it might be related to possible damp issue, however there was no musty smells or mould smell around the house. Any ideas would be much appreciated!

It sounds a bit like a dehumidifier but a wide hose going downstairs sounds odd. Normally a dehumidifier would extract moisture from the air and the liquid would collect in a container within the machine. Some do have hoses to take the liquid to a separate drain so you don’t need to keep emptying the container bit these are normally fairly narrow.

Don't air conditioning units use those hoses? To vent away the hot air?

Yes! I think it's an air-con unit, but the weird part is why put the hose through the floor (rather than the window like in this picture?)aircon

A positive input ventilation system?

Does if push the air through an air brick? I’d be wary of this though.
