If your house face west to the back and east to the front which side would you put solar panels?

You could have a split array. Some panels front and some panels back. If the budget doesn’t stretch then west is best

No as we will be doing a loft conversion so we need 1 side for windows .
Glad you said west that was my first thought

Ask the fitter's advice. We have a south facing roof but the panels had to go on the north side because they would have been overshadowed by trees elsewhere
