Chimney Quote - is this reasonable?

Hi Everyone,

I've been quoted for some chimney repairs and was wondering if this quote was reasonable. I'm a single female living alone, so just want to make sure I am not being ripped off.

  1. Repoint chimney stack with lime mortar and reduce height if necessary
  2. New code 4 lead flashing
  3. Strip paint from 2 fireplaces and repoint with lime mortar (there is damp there and that's what the survey recommended)
  4. Fill gaps in fireplace brickwork with cement (Is cement bad for damp? What alternative should be used?)
Quote came in at £2k and comes with a 10 year warranty No scaffolding required Based in Bedfordshire

Does this quote sound fair?

I would get a couple of other quotes, if they aren’t using scaffolding are the using a tele handler to access the roof?

Sounds OK to me.

I'm a bit confused about the lime mortar repointing and then using concrete? I would have thought you would need something breathable instead of concrete?
Also, if your chimney breast is going to be plastered, you would need lime plaster and then only use clay paint (breathable) or you will undo all the breathability of the lime mortar.

Yes thank you this is my thought also - I'm not sure why I've had two roofers suggest using concrete.. I will query this.

@daisychain237 we had some lime plastering done, and the firm was incredibly knowledgeable. You could contact a specialist lime plastering firm near you for advice regarding the concrete x
