Sliding doors

I'm looking for a company to use in the SE. We don't want to spend a fortune but are looking for just over 4m wide 3 pane doors.

Any recommendations or ideas of brands we should look for? Are Origin super pricey?

We have gone for Sunflex (pricier than origin) Around 10k for 5.5m
Hope that helps.

Baxdream · 11/08/2022 07:32

That's helpful thanks. A bit more than we're hoping to spend. What made you choose them?

Just fell in love in the showroom.

Baxdream · 11/08/2022 09:10

Thanks so much. I've had two quotes so far, both 9k. It just seems so much in comparison to bifolds.

Maxlight are great for slim profile sliding doors. They can give you an estimate based on dimensions. I would strongly recommend supply and fit from whoever you go with. Any future problems are then definitely down to the one company

GardensandGrandDesigns · 11/08/2022 10:53

What sold me with sliders is that 90% of the year they are closed so you effectively have floor to ceiling picture windows. Bifolds are very chunky in comparison but don't get me wrong still nice. Do whatever you can afford.

GardensandGrandDesigns · 11/08/2022 10:53

P.S. also heard maxlight are fantastic too.

Baxdream · 11/08/2022 12:03

Thanks so much. We have quite a pretty garden (well it looks like hay at the moment!) so I love the idea of more glass.
Also we have a dog and sliders will be so much better for our lifestyle, aka letting the dog in and out!
Due to the size, we would likely have to have 4 panes which would be irritating!

I installed Sunflex with the thinnest frames and upgraded insulating glass. They are good. It was around 5.5K for 3.2m in early 2021 (in SE).

Could you let me know who you used please?

HBD in St. Albans. I couldn't recommend their installation service though. Had to get another installer back to clean up the mess they had made with the sealant. Everything else was good so if going with them insist on a well trained installer!

GardensandGrandDesigns · 11/08/2022 15:28

We are using HBD too and now I'm worried!

Arstem · 11/08/2022 18:26

I work in construction and have used HBD a lot on our jobs. I wouldn’t go anywhere near them.
have a look at Cortizo Corvision system, really nice doors, slim 20mm profile and a lot cheaper than Sunflex

I've paid now, delivery next month 😯

There clearly have installers who do know what they they are doing as the guy that came to rectify the mess was tutting under his breath about it all. They also only foamed in one side of the frame! I was happy to rectify this myself as the side that they did do was so shoddy I had to remove and start again in any case. They hassled me for a review for ages so eventually I left a fairly scathing review on Trustpilot but they didn't seem to care. Maybe contact them and say you are worried about installation based on some poor reviews so that you earmarked for the 'better' installers from the outset? Might be worth a try.

Workingmum34 · 12/08/2022 07:08

Not sure if they deliver to the south but might be worth an email, we have just paid £8000 for a sliding door system with thin profile and level threshold inc installation for some slightly less than 5m with 3 panes and solar control glass - the company is www.foldingslidingdoors.com

sheerjewl · 12/08/2022 07:10

We have gone with Sunflex too.

For those who have had sunflex, what lead time were on your doors?

GardensandGrandDesigns · 12/08/2022 07:20

8 weeks @sheerjewl

Itscoldouthere · 12/08/2022 07:25

@Baxdream Just wondering how big your opening is? Why you think you would need 4 sliders?
We had 2 sets of sliders fitted in our last house in the barns and only had 3 sliders on an 8m opening. They can be really big if you want as long as you use a good system.
Our fitters we’re terrible so can’t recommend I’m afraid.

Baxdream · 12/08/2022 07:28

4 panes if we went for bifolds. Sliders I'd want 3 panes

Slightlybemusedstill · 12/08/2022 11:09

Hi,
We got 3.8m opening covered in 3 sliders for £5500 last October. They are lift and slide ones with two panes sliding open either way so we didn't have to choose a side as the main opening to the garden. Not slim sightlines but we are happy with the view (we don't have rolling vistas that are marred by normal width frames).

We've been using the doors more since the summer and so far they have been fine. The brand is Raynaers but we went to a local company that fabricates them so cut out the middle man.

The company was called Team Frames Trade in Godstone Kent. HTH

Baxdream · 12/08/2022 11:29

That's brilliant thanks so much!

OP posts:
Baxdream · 21/08/2022 12:16

After lots of deliberation, we are going for 5 pane bifolds 😂
I was so negative about them but firstly they are cheap. Secondly, they allow the room to be useable everywhere except where the traffic door will be. Finally, 4 panels led to huge doors which became unusable.

What I have learnt is that timber French doors are beautiful and if anyone has the property and money for them, you should absolutely get these!

CRK Windows in Hemel installed our Sunflex sliders and they were brilliant! Cheaper than the quote from HBD as well.
