Electric gates DIY?

We bought a house with electric gates which are clearly on their way out. Have had been quoted around £3-4k to replace them which doesn't seem worth it. Instead considering having a go ourselves. Has anyone done this and how hard was it?

A bit late to the party but I had the same issues, there are things you could try before you go spending loads. Call 'The Electric Gate Shop' ask for Simon he is most helpful.😀

Is the problem with the actual gates or the actuator that opens them? Any part can most likely be replaced without needing a whole new system of gates, motor, controls and all.
