Estate agent’s commission

We’ve had three estate agents round to value the house. All have quoted the exact same commission %, so I don’t feel I have any room to haggle with them. Is this standard, would it be rude to ask for them to charge less commission or should we just pay?

I have sold before but am unsure of etiquette. Last time we used Foxtons and they were very clear that they did not haggle on their commission!

I haggled by asking them to include VAT in the pre VAT % they quoted me. They agreed.

wuntootreefore · 29/07/2022 22:21

Definitely haggle. I agree with pp asking for the pre-vat rate but to include vat.

bilbodog · 29/07/2022 22:51

Yes you should haggle!

SweatyLaBetty · 30/07/2022 06:43

I always haggle to 0.75% + VAT, as I think that's a fair price for the service - any more than that feels ridiculous!

Albanyriver · 30/07/2022 06:49

You can negotiate on other contract terms even if they won’t shift on % eg minimum term

vinoandbrie · 30/07/2022 08:41

Thank you! Everyone has offered us 0.5% + VAT. I don’t want to annoy them by making them think we don’t want to pay a fair fee, but it does feel like a bit of a cartel that they’re all set at exactly the same rate!

That sounds very low. I'd snap their hand off.

ClassSize2022 · 30/07/2022 08:45

Oh wow 0.5 + vaT is v good

DashboardConfessional · 30/07/2022 09:23

I paid a flat fee which was 1% - I wouldn't bother haggling at 0.5%!

Twiglets1 · 30/07/2022 15:37

Just choose the best one and pay it. Any lower than 0.5% they won’t be very motivated to sell your property
