Living in Winchester

Any black mumsnetters living in Winchester? Want to find out about experiences of living in Winchester as a black person. I put this here as there is more traffic here compared with BMN.

Don't do it. I am half asian. I moved here from London.

It is certainly not multicultural. It is a lovely city.

I live in Winchester now (currently purchasing) and there is a growing community of minorities. My husband is white though. I have come across a number of people (via the hospital where I work) living in Winchester who are planning on buying to stay.

Thank you for working in the NHS, assuming you are, tough times. Thank you. I moved here from London. There is a subtle snobbery. Steve Brine is the MP for the area, too. He is a right wing Tory. Londoners wouldn't have voted for him.

Interesting- yes I work for the NHS. I think it is a closer knit community which means it can be difficult to make/form friendships especially if you want to separate all that from work. I currently join some social groups in more diverse surrounding areas like Southampton. I don’t know! I will reevaluate in a few years to come.

But as an ex-Londoner I can imagine it might have been a culture shock for you! I grew up in London but have been in the hime-counties and other cities since university.
