Waste pipes- should we renew

We are building a side extension to our 1960's house. The extension will be built on top of the waste pipes. We have previously had an issue with a pipe blocking from our downstairs toilet. We had a firm put a camera down there and discovered an old metal rod had been left in the pipe presumably from a previous blockage. Now we are at the stage of whether we should replace all the old pipes going under the new extension or just the pipe that has the blockage, which joins the pipe about half way under the extension. We are torn- if the pipes are ok should we just leave them or because they are 60 years old should we bite the bullet and replace? Wise mumsnetters please advise.

What are the pipes made of? Have they moved at all?

Looks like they are ceramic - I don't think they have moved - it's just the fact they are old and now is the only time to replace them easily

Sorry, no idea what the lifespan of ceramic waste pipes would be, I have never come across them!

The reason I asked if they had moved is because you said there had been blockages before - that can happen when the ground moves and screws up the slope on a portion of the pipe.

If the ground had moved, would probably have been safer to replace them all, and make sure the slopes all work.

Apparently the pipes are clay!! The metal rod in the pipe looks like a rod that they've used previously to unblock the pipe and it's been left..waste products seem to accumulate around it and then blocks the toilet.

I still feel it would be better to change them all when we can, but my husband isn't so sure.
