Hi all,
I would be interested to get peoples views/experiences on anyone that has sold their home privately without using estate agents? Is it a good idea and where would be the best place to advertise?

You will struggle to sell without being on rightmove which is why you need an agent. Why dont you want to use one? The alternative to a high street agents are the online ones like purple bricks but they have a bad reputation.

We've sold property like this because a property search agent (friend of a friend) contacted us as she'd heard we were moving. A price was agreed that was in excess of what estate agent (and we) predicted and everyone was happy. However, if you don't have a contact like that then I think you need an estate agent rather that trying to market it privately.

The 1%-ish they charge is usually well worth it.
