As the title, I have never seen a house like this before.
Think it might be a bit marmite, I am in the, it wouldn't be for me camp.

As an aside, what on earth is standing inside the front door?!

House here

One of the fugliest buildings I have ever seen, inside and out

liveforsummer · 24/07/2022 12:36

What part of the country are you, where there are multiple houses like this?

I'd say the part where the residents like to disagree with anything just for the sake of it 😆

Spanielsarepainless · 24/07/2022 12:38

Our cattle used to live in one just like that but the windows were bigger.

This thing??

I had to zoom in on that when I saw the listing. Literally the only thing of interest in the whole house haha

Luckingfovely · 24/07/2022 12:42

Lots of people happy to criticise without applying any thought Hmm

Obviously this is a converted agricultural barn that was granted planning permission on the basis that the outside structure remained identical.

Obviously this wouldn't have been designed like this from scratch; and it obviously would not have got through planning as a new design anyhow given its location.

Once you understand that, somebody has done a pretty clever job of making it light and airy and spacious in the inside. I'm quite impressed.

It may not be to everyone's taste, but it's not that surprising or strange, just an adaptation of an already ugly agricultural building into a useful dwelling.

This is exactly what this country needs. It is overcrowded and short of housing stock. I'm all for converting brownfield sites and properties rather than eating up more of the green belts.

Sadly, I can't explain the front door cocks and balls though, although it does look in need of a beaker Grin

Whoactuallythinksthat · 24/07/2022 12:42

Bland on the inside, detention centre on the outside. Not my cup of tea, but I have seen several like this. They’re supposed to fit in with surrounding barns/barn conversions.
I think the penis must be an attempt at giving the interior some personality (the personality of a 13yr old boy) 😂

TwoMonthsOff · 24/07/2022 12:42

Whilst standing upstairs an adult would not be able to see the windows. That would be so weird

ivykaty44 · 24/07/2022 12:43

its not unpleasant, clean lines and simple

but for me its to enclosed - I like more open plan and space - which there could have been

Chewbecca · 24/07/2022 12:45

Ugly outside and dull inside. Not a great recipe for a lovely home for me.

TheCrowening · 24/07/2022 12:50

It’s a grey box. For something that size, the windows are tiny.

GriseldaPlum · 24/07/2022 12:54

These are popping up in the rural area where I live. I like it. There are at least half a dozen within 5 miles of me.

StopStartStop · 24/07/2022 12:57

Did the planning consent say 'You can convert your barn, but it must still look like a barn?'

Is it climate-change adapted? The small windows, cladding etc?

Newpuppymummy · 24/07/2022 13:01

The outside of the house looks like a warehouse. The inside I’ve seen many houses similar. The price is high for that area

loveislouderthanwar · 24/07/2022 13:02

It's like a huge prefab. It's not for me.

Honeyroar · 24/07/2022 13:06

My friend has converted his modern farm building, which was made of aluminium like this house. That’s kind of what the outside of his looks like. That’s how the planning department wanted it.

The inside of this is as soul less as the outside. And that thing by the door is probably meant to be a mushroom, but also meant to be tongue in cheek.

Timeturnerplease · 24/07/2022 13:09

Yes to the not for me camp too, though that is an insane amount of space for the money.

Funnyfive · 24/07/2022 13:18

This is most likely what is called a class Q conversion which is a planning rule which allows people to ‘convert’ an existing barn into a dwelling without actually requiring full planning permission.

However the amount of alterations they can make are minimal and therefore we end up with ugly contrived buildings like this all over the countryside, miles from services, massive reliance on a car and requiring more agricultural buildings to be built to replace them. Indicative of the government’s shit ideas on how to boost housing stock.

The interior photos are really misleading as those windows are far, far too small to create the light bright rooms they show. Massive lights must have been used to brighten the rooms and in reality they are probably quite dark rooms that need lights on day and night!

The house is also too top heavy, loads of bedrooms but only two rooms downstairs, no utility, no study - not a great design for a family or what I would want in a house!

lucelou82 · 24/07/2022 13:19

All I keep thinking is, if this was where I live it would be around £1.2 million! I actually have a shot of owning this!

RaraRachael · 24/07/2022 13:20

Ugly outside - bland inside. That just about sums it up.

Peachy66 · 24/07/2022 13:22

I think it looks like a warehouse from the outside.
I would be concerned about the garage flooding, as surely rain water will flow down the slope and underneath the door!!!!!! Unless there is some form of drainage in place.

SallyWD · 24/07/2022 13:31

The first thing I noticed was the really small windows. I don't like that. Inside it looks nice but not really my style - I'm not in to minimalism.

GarkandGookin · 24/07/2022 13:43

It seems to be a trend to convert barns into dwellings - it is a good price though.
This one is detached and quite a bit pricier.

Why is there the skeleton of a car in the roof space of this place?

Lampan · 24/07/2022 13:54

It’s a no from me. It looks like a light industrial unit from outside

brighterthanaluckypenny · 24/07/2022 13:57

Why is it 'clad in aluminium?' Is it a design feature, or is it supposed to do something?

Won't it be horribly warm?

And why is there a penis in the entrance hallway?
