Neighbours building works

Just had planning notification for NDN to build a single storey extension along our patio fence line. Having just had back neighbours erect a building at end of their garden, for months on end it seems, was just starting to enjoy privacy again without builders having full view of garden. I don’t want to object but there’s certain times of year, spring & summer that I want privacy so yes, I can sit in my chair and have a snooze, garden and generally not having the awkwardness of thinking someone can see what I’m up to, when we bought the house, I didn’t want an overlooked garden and I realise this will only be another short period of time but on top on back NDN it’s got to me. What’s reasonable here do you think, ok as long as any work which invades my privacy done in late autumn / winter, would that be an acceptable request ? I realise they can probably do what they like, I don’t want any fallout, as generally get on ok with them.

Ah I’d just let them get on with it and get It over with and then have years ahead of you with no more chance of it ruining another summer.

Yep, it’s only option, I will request no weekend work or any work at weekends which gives a view of garden, so no roofing etc and let them get on with it.

You don't really get to dictate when a neighbour can or cannot do building work, as long as they are following the correct planning laws, and working within the laws regarding construction noise.

You might find this webpage useful for explaining what you can and cannot object to with regard to planning www.richmond.gov.uk/what_is_a_valid_objection_to_a_planning_application
I'd suggest you particularly look at the items that they specifically state are NOT taken into account.

There are laws around construction hours. Again Richmond Council has a good resource www.richmond.gov.uk/services/housing/noise_and_nuisance/commercial_noise#:~:text=Normally%20the%20hours%20for%20noisy,on%20Sundays%20and%20Bank%20Holidays

The hours that construction noise is allowed are normally
8am to 6pm Monday to Friday
8am to 1pm Saturday
No noisy works on Sundays and Bank Holidays

If you neighbours are doing something outside of planning laws, or their contractors are working outside the legal times that construction noise is allowed, then you can make a complaint to the Council accordingly, and they will deal with it.

You don't have control on which months your neighbours are allowed to do home improvements in! On the other hand, if their planning application is only going in now, it's unlikely they'll be in a position to start work until well beyond the end of the summer anyway.

Also we’ve just been granted planning permission and don’t foresee work starting for about another year as builders are so busy. So I dunno, not really much you can dictate unfortunately!

The hours for construction noise differ in other councils.. my local one has no restrictions at all on Saturdays. Chelsea and Westminster is no weekends at all.
