Driveway fence -does it belong to us or neighbours

Hi all

We just bought a house which needs a little work on the outside & driveway.

It's a semi-detached with a driveway. Our driveway and the neighbours are separated by a very ugly and old looking fence which I'd quite like to change.

I'm not sure if the fence is ours or the neighbours.

Our house is on the right hand side (when you look at it) I have tried google but I can only see info in regards to the garden fences.

Also .. if it does indeed belong to the neighbours, which seem to be elderly. Do you think it would be acceptable to propose we change it? We would pay for it of course. Or is that a rude thing to do 🙈 I wouldn't want to offend them

Or could we paint it on our side? Would that be allowed? Again all the info I can find on google is about garden fences.

What do the deeds say?

If it’s theirs I would let them know you want to put up a new fence and would they prefer you to
out it solely on your side (leaving the old one their) or to replace the lot.

If the fence is theirs you need to ask
for permission to paint it

Google won't tell you, only the deeds/land registry entry for your house will tell you which is your boundary. I imagine that front and back will match .

That's bril thanks everyone

Will ask DH to check what's in the deeds
great idea to tell the neighbours we're putting a fence up & ask if they'd rather have that one replaced
