Adding additional dormer when there is already one - anyone done this

We have found a lovely bungalow which we are hoping would work for us with my Mum living upstairs and us downstairs.

At the moment there is a double dormer at the back with a bedroom and en suite. My Mum would like a separate living space so we are looking to add another dormer at the front for this. It might be single, or double, depending on how much room we can make.

I know we need planning and others having done it is not a precedent so our purchase doesn’t depend on this as we could add an extension for the same purpose but having Mum’s accommodation all on the same floor would be better.

Im just wondering if anyone else had added an additional dormer, where one existed and access/stairs was already done and a ballpark figure of the costs. I know people who have had a dormer done to a house. But surely this isn’t as much work as the stairs are already there and presumably some of the structural work is done?
