I need to replace the old carpet in my son's room. I would like something really hard wearing as he rolls around on his office chair a lot and forgets to take his shoes off etc...the floor takes a battering.

I would stick with carpet if it were me in a sensible colour with a bit of a fleck so it doesn't show up the dirt.

Waterproof laminate h20

Get a hard floor, some sort of wood, laminate, luxury vinyl tiling, or even bog standard lino depending on budget.

We did this in the spare room we use for kitten fostering because they destroyed the carpet and contaminated it with all manner of bodily fluids so obviously hard to clean up properly.

We now have lino with a wood print and slight texture and it looks really nice.

Personally I'd replace with laminate. We've got Quickstep throughout our house and it's worn incredibly well. Had it down 10 years nearly and looks really good still, very minimal wear.

I'd go for hard wearing carpet. Laminate or Lino or suchlike will echo all the sound and his footsteps

Carpet tiles, office grade. Buy an extra pack or 2 because they are easy to replace if you have a spillage.
Hard floors are awful for teenager's rooms because they amplify any noise.
My DS refurbishes student accommodation and he swears by carpet tiles.

My parents put LVT in my room when I was a teenager. My mum was fed up of cleaning mascara out of my carpet 😂

I had a big rug under the bed for comfort and ~aesthetics~

Amtico is amazing stuff, quite expensive but lasts decades and is indestructible. Wide choice of patterns and colours that can look like real wood or stone.

Tallulah79 · 20/07/2022 14:48

Would definitely recommend LVT, I have just fit this in our lounge area and managed to do it myself with the click down installation method. Shop around, we got ours at such a good deal rather than the big brands/shops

Laminate. Easier to keep clean. Add rug that can be swapped easily in future

Laminate with a big cotton rug by his desk for him to roll his chair around on. Those indoor/outdoor rugs are hardwearing, cheap and easily replaceable.
