To ask my seller for a reduction in price

So in February we put an offer on a house and it got accepted. Due to the seller not disclosing a large complication it dragged on and on with no end in sight. The issue was found on the searches and added another 8 weeks onto the process. If they had been honest at the beginning then it would have been sorted a lot quicker.

My buyers pulled as it was taking too long, fair enough. I had to relist and as the market isn’t as good as when we first sold I had to take a 10k hit on my sale. The people we are buying off of gave us deadline to sell and luckily we sold it just in time.

Now I normally am so against this but I am seriously considering asking for them to take some of the hit for me. Only because this would have been done months ago if they had been honest in the beginning. Is it horrible of me?

You can ask, they can either agree, negotiate or decline. That’s how business works. I don’t think it’s a big deal.

@P205 Yeah you are right, no harm in asking. Just something I always thought was a bit too cheeky. Different when it’s you Haha

I think you can easily couch this in terms of being down to your seller and ask them to also take a £10k hit.

I would ask in these circumstances. Nothing to lose by asking and it seems reasonable to me if the delay was their fault. Good luck!

Is the Complication enough to make resell difficult? If so, it's worth getting a discount based on that

Mumonthedge · 17/07/2022 17:20

@sleepyhoglet Yes, people would definitely be put off buying it because of the hassle. But once it’s sorted it won’t be a problem again so it won’t impact us selling it down the line.

We had something similar, I asked for a 5k reduction, they declined, I went ahead anyway. Worth asking though
