Mortgage in joint names, but property in one name possible?

We are looking to buy a flat and the mortgage will be a joint mortgage (DH and I)
but we wanted the property to be in my name.

We have just been told by the solicitor that it is not possible

Anyone knows if it is the case or there could be exceptions and we should look into this more

TIA

Sure there is. It’s called a “joint borrower sole proprietor” mortgage, you should find a broker who can find lenders who offer that.

Why would you want to do that?

As you’re married it would be irrelevant anyway even if you could do it as the flat is a shared asset.

Actually I don’t know if there’s an issue with the joint borrower being your husband, might be worth checking that

I think (and could be wrong) that your partner can be a guarantor or have an interest in the property.

Why?
if you are married it’s a marital asset
