Glass or shower curtain

Renovating the bathroom. I am so sick of cleaning the bl shower and glass still looking not it's best. We live in a hard water area and I am seriously thinking just ripping the glass screen and replacing it with a normal shower curtain. DH is dead against it, as 'why to renovate and then put shower curtain? Glass looks nice!' Except, that he has NEVER cleaned the bl* thing in his life.
I know, have a DH problem, not the Shower Cirtain Problem, but still-
would you put sh curtain or glass screen?

P.s., I have no idea why prt of my post is in different font. I didn't do anything and I don't know how to change it.

buy a water softener.

ItsDinah · 10/07/2022 00:33

Opaque, frosted /and or textured glass screen is a lot less annoying. I've seen wooden shower doors, some with part frosted or clear glass. Curtains are not a great idea except where you have a very large shower enclosure and the curtain is for privacy only.

Skinterior · 10/07/2022 00:41

Shower curtain. I have a few, all machine washable.

You can get some ace ones these days

Curtains are horrible - the way they cling to you if you accidently touch them makes me shudder.
Shower screen all the way for me.
As ItsDinah says, if it is frosted / opaque / patterned, then and marks or smears will be less obvious.

Aria999 · 10/07/2022 01:18

My amazing cleaner blitzed the glass screen with a cleaning material known as Bar Keepers Friend. Looked like new.

MrszClaus · 10/07/2022 01:32

Definitely not a curtain! Cold, wet, sticky and not nice to look at. A water softener in your shower head could help - or a good cleaner / squeegee routine

FictionalCharacter · 10/07/2022 01:36

Glass! I can’t bear curtains sticking to me in the shower.
We use a spray that you use when you’ve finished showering and it stops limescale buildup. If we do get limescale I just use an ordinary limescale remover.

stuntbubbles · 10/07/2022 02:56

Curtain! I’ve never known a curtain to stick to me while I shower, why would it?

Screens never quite block the spray enough and you have to squeegee them daily cause bundling the curtain in the wash every now and then.

onlythreenow · 10/07/2022 03:47

Having recently experienced both, I am happier with a curtain as I can't be bothered cleaning the glass! I don't think I've ever had a curtain stick to me in the shower.

notagaim · 10/07/2022 04:11

You need viakal spray. Spray, leave for an hour then rinse, glass is immaculate. I hate curtains, clung to you, go mouldy

Nat6999 · 10/07/2022 05:18

Limescale remover or Pink Stuff should shift it, don't go back to a shower curtain, you will regret it.

Charley50 · 10/07/2022 05:24

I like shower curtains. They don't stick to me and I like that you can change them for a different look.

RamblingFar · 10/07/2022 05:34

Glass. Shower curtains only work if you have a lot of space. Otherwise they end up sticking to you or not preventing the water from escaping. They also don't tend to last long before they inevitably turn mildewy.

AnnieCannyFrangipani · 10/07/2022 05:37

When I redid my bathroom 8 years ago I chose curtains. No regrets and they've never stuck to me.

My entire bathroom's white and I bought a few different colours of shower curtains with matching towel bundles so I switch the colour scheme around regularly when I fancy a change.

Curtains that are in use go in the washing machine weekly with Persil bio powder. So much easier to look after than glass.

BlueSkyWarmSea · 10/07/2022 07:12

I hate curtains, the memories of them grabbing my legs makes me shudder. I also remember them going mildew quite easily. You'd likely be swapping cleaning the glass for washing the curtain regularly. Do you squeegee the water off every time you use the shower?

Anna783426 · 10/07/2022 07:32

We had a glass one that was really tricky to clean, then it fell off without warning and narrowly missed my husband and 6 month old baby, smashed glass everywhere. I've stuck with a curtain ever since - it's never stuck to me and is easy to clean. I think you can get some good ones these days.

Cuphalffullor · 10/07/2022 07:35

Definitely a curtain. So easy to wash and on a bath go further down side. We did that when we moved 2 years ago. But when we did up previous place to sell we did glass. All hated it but took plumber’s advice.

LizzieMacQueen · 10/07/2022 07:45

@JustOldMe your font went funny because you put asterisks in your OP. That automatically bolds anything between 2 asterisks. It id why the A level result posts always look odd. The A stars.

Re shower. If you get one of these & swipe the screen free of water after each shower that should help.

We dry it with an old towel after each shower. Rarely need to clean it

Iheartmysmart · 10/07/2022 07:59

When I bought my flat the shower screen was so covered in limescale I thought it was frosted! It also didn’t open very far as it caught on the basin. I took it down and now have a curtain. It’s much easier, just change them regularly.

Floydthebarber · 10/07/2022 08:01

Glass. Curtains go manky and need regular washing, even in our soft water area. They just look grubby so quickly.

mizzo · 10/07/2022 08:08

Glass.
I wish I could say my family and I were diligent enough to towel dry/squeegee/spray with method after each and every shower but we aren't in the slightest.
However there is viakal which is miraculous. Also we have smoked glass in the main bathroom which is much more forgiving.

I love the look of shower curtains but in practice they are always annoying and cling to your legs.

iloveyankeecandle · 10/07/2022 08:13

Glass. Shower curtains always go mouldy.

WoolyMammoth55 · 10/07/2022 09:38

Honestly OP, it's got to be glass. Curtains just look terribly cheap, like student digs.

Agree to try frosted or patterned if you want to minimise cleaning, but we just squeegee and spray after each use - 20 sec job - and it looks great.

Battybonkers · 10/07/2022 10:33

Glass
and buy a karcher window vac. DH never cleaned ours either but managed to train him to use the window vac after a shower (it’s oddly satisfying) and that made a huge difference.
