Building a Garage

We are looking to build a garage. We have a large driveway and wanting a single garage. Just the shell and a pitched roof as we have family who can sort electrics.

Where do we actually start and what do we need to do? We are looking to start spring next year. No planning is needed.

How much is a single garage with a pitched roof likely to cost? Just an estimate really?

There are a lot variables, size/amount of doors /windows and so on , but at a guess I’d say 8-10k if you can do some yourselves, maybe 15-20k at a guess ?

Measure your car sideways with both doors fully open, the garage will need to be wider than that.

Have a look at the various oak-framed garage companies to give you an idea. Then you will need to factor in groundworks. And get a few quotes ours varied by 250%

Thanks all.

Is it just a case of contacting a builder or do we need to get plans drawn up first?

You could drawn plans yourself for a detached garage just put the dimensions on and how far from house/ boundary’s. And submit them yourselves, no need for an architect, it’s all on the internet, all the building regs are there too. All you will need then is building control to do site vista at certain stages.
you don’t have to use the council for building regs you can use private companies for this nowdays. From personal experience I’ve found them to be better/ cheaper than the council.
