Planning a kitchen with DIY kitchens, what’s the process with kitchen fitter?

This may be a stupid question, but looking at a new kitchen and considering going with DIY kitchens and getting an independent kitchen fitter.

has anyone done this?

I have been working on my design (although there are a few issues). Did you discuss your plans with a kitchen fitter before ordering? I am wondering if there are any tricks/bespoke bits they could do in areas that aren’t quite right on the design. Or do they generally just want to come in and fit the kitchen once it’s ordered?

I wondered about going to some design appointments with other kitchen places like Wren but I think they can be funny about sharing plans without you putting any money down!

I talked our DIY utility through with our fitter first as I wanted him to use some end panels to build a housing for the stacked washing machine and tumble dryer, with a top box and door above. I worked out all the components and sizes though.

I did kitchen planning with IKEA, they share the plans, no obligation to use their installer and they will convert the plan into an order for you. I am using an independent fitter to fit it, and the installer is also arranging gas engineer, electrician and skip, plus removing old kitchen and appliances.

Do IKEA measure for you?

Nope I don’t think so! I know you can book planning appointments with them though

You can book a measurement appointment, they docharge for that though. I think about £35 or something like that, we measured up ourselves though and took them in.
