How much would you expect to pay?

We’ve got an original wooden front door for our victorian house, and are looking to rip out the upvc one that’s currently in there and reinstate the wooden one. How much roughly would you expect to pay for a joiner to create a new door frame & fanlight, plus prepping & repainting the door? We’re complete novices as new home owners, and have no idea whether to expect to pay £500 or £5000!

My new door just cost £1600 installed and I understand that tradespeople charge, roughly speaking, 50/50 materials/labour.

So on that basis I'd say £800.

It depends where you are in the country and how urgent it is. Obviously London and the south east are a bit more pricey than elsewhere. You will get a better price if you are willing to wait 6 months to a year as good tradespeople who are cheaper get booked up a long way in advance. Trades are busy at the moment so we very wary of anyone who can come and do it in the next few weeks.
