Buckinghamshire - Great Missenden?

We are hoping to move to Buckinghamshire in the next year and trying to work out best towns / villages to suit us.

We have been looking at Amersham (particularly like Chesham Bois are) but not many properties are coming up that we like.

I’ve seen some lovely looking properties in Great Missenden but not sure what secondary school options you have there.

We would really like to take a shot at going the grammar route and have one girl and one boy.

We also both work in London so want a fairly easy commute - either able to walk to a station or have an easy drive / parking.

My husband is keen to have some local amenities e.g. a deli / cafe and corner shop in walking distance.

Any insights greatly appreciated!

I'd try to find something in Amersham or Chesham Bois. There's lot of nice houses there, excellent grammar schools and plenty going on.

Great Missenden is nice enough but a bit in the sticks.

G.Missenden will remain quiet for a bit yet.

Secondary school catchments will depend on where in the village you are. The end nearer Amersham feeds into the Amersham grammars, but the other end Aylesbury. The Bucks council website has a useful map showing where the catchments fall and a postcode checker.

Commute isn't bad and you can drive to Amersham fairly easily if you want a cheaper train fare.

I live near Great Missenden and love it. Missenden itself has good facilities (train station with ample parking - albeit expensive! - cafes/pub/several restaurants/ gift shops/small supermarket. It’s easy to hop on the train to London (or Aylesbury way).
Up the hill in Prestwood there’s several cafes/pubs/shops.
We find it’s a great mix of easy access to the countryside but enough facilities to be interesting.
Grammar school wise - none are close but for our address 4 are within catchment, including 2 of the co-ed ones. The local school in Missenden (the Misbourne) is also well regarded if they don’t pass the 11+

I love Great Missenden, lovely area to live. We used to live near there before moving. Plus you are close, but far enough away from High Wycombe, which has a good shopping centre.

Is there and parking free at Amersham?
Is Cross Rail going through G.Missenden? How does one know which part?

Is parking free at Amersham station? No.

Not sure whether you mean cross rail or HS2? Crossrail doesn't go through GM but HS2 goes through the Chilterns on the Amersham to Wendover road.
