Current removals cost - long distance

Can people share their recent removals costs please. Full packing etc.
Our move is about 2 hrs away. Normal family amount of stuff. We have been quoted just over £4K. Wondered if that was excessive or I need to brace myself for that being what it will cost.

£2k just round the corner so £4K prob not entirely unreasonable

ThatsNotMyMuffin · 01/07/2022 18:22

4 bed here, 250 miles move - quotes ranging from £2900 to £3300 without packing. Packing was usually around £400-£500 extra.

KarrotKake · 01/07/2022 18:28

Oh, boy. These make ours look cheep.
Only a few miles away, but 4 bed been quoted 700, 1400 and 2100. All with full packing.
2 hrs away, means 4 hours driving so maybe an extra half day?

OhWifey · 01/07/2022 18:47

I expected about £2.5k based on £1.2k round the corner 8 years ago, similar amount of stuff

Wow that is expensive, we moved last year, 3hrs away, £1800.

Oldlearner · 01/07/2022 19:11

I moved end of last year about 450 miles, was around £950. Was one large Luton van (27cubicmeters) and 2 men.

I used deliveryquotecompare.com . Put the details of your move and removal companies will submit a quote. I got a few quotes and picked who I wanted to go with.
I'd imagine might be a bit more expensive now after all the recent price hikes but was more competitive the just contacting firms direct. I was getting crazy quotes til I found this site.

Minster2012 · 01/07/2022 21:59

We got quoted £3.5k for moving 2 miles away by 2 diff firms. It wasn't the distance it was the stuff. Large 4 bed house.

randomsabreuse · 01/07/2022 22:03

My quotes 2 years ago ranged from 1800 to 4k, the cheapest one was fine... That was a 3 bed but 500 miles each way!

TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams · 01/07/2022 22:08

Just under £4k 5 yrs ago from London to approx 70 miles away. 2.5 hrs?
Full packing service with furniture put back together, and a full size trailer on the back of the removal lorry.

Nc58985 · 01/07/2022 22:47

We moved country last year - three bed house. £4k plus packing

Crikeyalmighty · 01/07/2022 22:50

Blimey that makes our £6.5k move from Copenhagen to Windsor including full packing and customs (amazing service it was too ) look cheap! Matthew James- can highly recommend- !!

BlueMongoose · 02/07/2022 09:16

A friend did a very long move a good few years ago, West Country to North of Scotland. Cost her 5K.

Oh wow @commonsense61 that is crazy money!

We've had another quote back of £1k less which is a relief. Will get another 2 quotes to cover a range

Crikeyalmighty · 03/07/2022 11:09

@commonsense61 Have you given Matthew James a call- we moved back from Denmark for 6.5k fully packed and they were amazing- packing was totally first rate!! They are mainly an internationals company, but do UK to UK moves too .

RidingMyBike · 03/07/2022 12:44

We moved end of last year - 200 miles. 4 bed detached plus contents of shed and garage.
Quotes ranged between £4.5k and £5.5k including packing. Cheapest was 3 days, other two quotes 4 days. We went with the cheapest as they were the only ones who had a Covid cancellation policy but really regret it as they were v slapdash and created a load of extra work for us.

RidingMyBike · 03/07/2022 12:46

Oh and that was 2 men packing one day, then 5 men for 2 days actually doing the move in 4 Luton vans.

Noglassjustthebottleandastraw · 03/07/2022 13:23

I just got quoted £450 and thought that was a lot 😳 this was a local man with a van, insurance etc. For a two hour move so 4/5 hours of work for him.

@commonsense61 for that they also dismantled and built3 beds and put together 3 clothes rails and cleared customs. Slight difference was they used a huge arctic with trailer and did ours and someone else's at the same time (all totally separated and coded) they also did a very thorough on line zoom walk round house before the quote and we had a project manager throughout who was always contactable. We were incredibly impressed
