Garage conversions

Hello wise Mumsnetters,

I had a query about change of use when a garage has been changed into an office. The garage is at the bottom of the garden. The original garage door that faced onto the road has been blocked up but new double glazed double doors have been added on the opposite side of the garage at the bottom of the garden. Before this there was a small window but now there are huge doors that you can see into/and presumably the neighbours can see out of. I thought there were protocols regarding overlooking others and privacy? Should they have used frosted glass or got some kind of planning permission? Thank you in advance.

If the building in its current state as an office complies with the Permitted Development restrictions for an outbuilding (namely size) then no they didn't need permission to convert. Look at the planning portal guide.
