No bathroom for a week!

We are having our bathroom and toilet renovated next week so it will be out of action for at least a week, maybe more. We have a toilet downstairs and can flannel wash and visit family but am I missing any good tricks?

Anything you can recommend to make the process less stressful? The kids are 6&4, would they still fit in a baby bath for a quick dunk? Should I set up the paddling pool? Stand on a tuff tray and sluice off?!

Hit me with your 'surviving bathroom renovations' tips!

Go swimming and use their shower.

Could you have a couple of trips to the public swimming pool and have showers there?

Fuuuuuckit · 30/06/2022 07:12

I'd say the water/loo won't be out of action for a week - mine was swapped over during one day whilst I was working. We showered with an interesting combination of emergency gaffa-taped-together shower curtains for a few days until the tiling was finished though!

Swimming/paddling pool/baby bath all great ideas.

We were in the same situation a few years ago. We just strip washed at kitchen sink (and washed hair using jugs) for the week. A nuisance but not a big problem.

Given you’ve got another loo, you’ll be absolutely fine. It’s the people with one loo that struggle with this, but as others say, they manage to only have the water switched off for a short period.

Work and gym showers! Or go to a friends nearby?

umpkj · 30/06/2022 16:04

It's ok because you have another loo. We had ours renovated in our old house with one loo. It was on/off and once I had to walk to community centre for toilet. I can't remember how we washed ourselves. We had a toddler too.

Camping shower? My neighbours moved to a house without a bathroom and used one.

supertedlasso · 30/06/2022 17:32

I think it had to be combined with a small paddling pool 🤔

JaninaDuszejko · 30/06/2022 17:36

Gym/swimming pool or work showers. I actually shower at the pool more than I do at home because I swim every morning before work.

We went to friends. Younger ones in the baby bath.

Clarabellawilliamson · 30/06/2022 18:49

Thanks everyone- a mid week swim might be on the cards next week I think!

We recently had our bathroom done and were only without a bath for a couple of days. Same in our last house. They plumbed the bath in first so that we had something at least, we just had to be careful not to get the floor wet.

We had no bathroom for 2.5 weeks. We bought a giant tub and DD bathed in that. I washed my hair in kitchen sink with jug and went to DB's for a shower a couple of times.
I hated it but no other option.

We went to friends next door for a shower.
